2011 Murrieta Valley Spring Variety Show

What great talent is in Murrieta Valley High School. Debi and I were there for about 3.5 hours and enjoyed each minute of it. Great night out with Kyle performing as well. Many of these young men and young women (and their families) I knew which makes it even better.

Kyle's Track Season Comes to an Abrupt Halt

Kyles Track is on hold for at least another 6 weeks. He was running the first event for the meet; the 110 hurdles when he hit the hurdle, fell back on his arms and seriously broke his arm about 4 inches up from his wrist. It was obvious by the uneven arm he was in trouble. We rushed him to the Children's hospital in San Diego where we thought they were especially good at orthopedics along growth plates and spent the night there working him over (and a lot of waiting for Doctors).

We found out Neeley broke her arm yesterday as well. Kyle is at least comforted in knowing he has a cast buddy. Great job Neeley!!

Kyle wins JV High Jump Elsinore vs MVHS

This is a new event for Kyle having practiced high jumping only two times before this meet. He also won his heat in the hurdles earlier in the day. The coaches are pretty stoked about this new 6'3" freshman athlete that looks, runs and jumps like a Gazelle. Way to go Kyle!

Hattie's Baptism was so awesome. We are so proud of her (in a good way). Thank you Hattie for making such good choices and Thank you Taani and Ryan for raising such a beautiful girl.

I still remember when Hattie's mom was baptized. What a wonderful day that was for all of us. Like Hattie, she has made righteous decisions her whole life. What a blessing she has been in our lives because of those decisions.

Way to go Taani. We love you.

Another action packed weekend with the youth. One of the activities was at the Mormon Battalion. They've remodeled and have done some pretty clever things. One of the things they offer is to take your picture so here it is.

Scuba Diving in La Jolla

For Father's day, Kevin promised me a scuba trip in La Jolla when the Leopard Sharks come in to Mate. I snorkel the cove every year during this time (first 3 or 4 weeks in August). This year was more fun. We scuba’d out to the La Jolla shelf where the ocean floor vanishes from 60 ft below the surface to a dark abyss. Very fun. Thanks Kevin. Anyone like to come with me next year? We went into the cove Friday and came back again Saturday. Saturday, after Kayaking, Kyle stepped on a sting ray and spent the day in the Life Guard station soaking his 1/2 inch gash; poor guy.

High Adventure AP Camp 2010

One of the most difficult bike trails I've been on.

Half of us made it to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. The Air is pretty thin up there and kept me out of breath more than usual. We went from elevation 2500 to 10834 in about 3.5 hours

The water was extremely choppy when I was on the boat with Kyle. He was able to stay up alot longer when the water was smooth that morning.

Trip to Eastern Sierras

What a beautiful place

Rainbow Falls was spectacular. The amount of water coming over the falls rivaled Havasupai.

The "Lower Falls" was another mile or so down the trail.

Mineret Falls is where we were camped. I think this was my favorite place. The whole mountain was full of waterfalls. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

Mineret Vista gives you a view of the whole setting. You can see in the distance Mineret Falls where we were camped. You also have a great view of Mammoth Mountain; famous for it's skiing.

Upper Mineret Falls was a bit of a hike, but is where Mineret Falls starts. I was amazed that it was 75 degrees, but still snow everywhee. The snow must have been deep this winter.

I had never seen an earthquake Fault. There was one close to Mammoth Lakes.

Kyle's Team Wins the 2010 MYBL League Championships

What an exciting final game. Kyle's team was only beaten twice and both times by the same team. In the finals, they beat that team by 20 points to win the championship. Kyle had an awesome game. What a great Season.

Some of you may be interested in these images of the canyon behind our house today. I've never seen the water flow anything like this since we moved here in 2001.

This was taken walking up the canyon behind our house. Up by "Flat Rock". One picture is where the bike jumps are right behind the Hobbs and Payne's house. It looks flat, but there is a huge and deep riverbed there. In that flat looking river area, the water must be at least 15 feet deep and 100 feet wide and running very fast in the main flow of water. Unless you see the before image, the after image doesn't do it justice. In the rocky fast flowing part of the canyon, lots of huge 20 foot boulders are covered up with the raging water.

Thanksgiving was fun, fast and furious this year. We went to Utah to spend thanksgiving with Tenille and Kevin, then rushed back to spend the afternoon with the Lawrences before they had to go back to Berkeley. Here are a couple pics from our adventure:

Kyle was given the 8th grade challenge to build the fastest Balloon racer. The only Rules: it couldn't use wheels designed as a toy car wheel and had to be propelled by a single Small Balloon. Carrying on the tradition of excellence from his Pine Wood Derby days, out of the 720 students in his school, he won first prize for the fastest racer. His car is desplayed this month in the library all month. His was the only car with the unique design of having no Chassis. Way to go Kyle; the future scientist.

When BYU came to town

Not sure how SDSU alumni knew we were BYU fans. Sure ticked them off. We were kicked out of the SDSU Alum section for being "too BYU." We got sweet revenge by watching SDSU get beat for their homecoming at QualCom on Saturday. We went looking for shady seats when the weather was in the high 80's and our BYU seats were in the sun. Happy to see lots of fellow BYU fans including Mark Hansen. Go Cougars!

We went to AZ to see Hattie and Ryan in the play "Savior of the World". Ryan directed the play. Here's a video of Hattie's parts. I had a lady with a "Big" hairdo in front of me and I tried (unsuccessfully) to hold the camera still, but you get a feel for her parts.

What a fun way to celebrate my 54th Birthday; with my kids and grandkids. They were so excited for a birthday party that it was contagious; The magic and fun of a birthday party. I asked them to take me to all the places they go that is close and easy so I can understand what they do for fun. What a beautiful place they live in. In just a few minutes you're in the mountains with pine trees, the farm petting cows, sheep, pigs and chickens, and walking on a pier watching the sun set on the bay. My favorite was going to a reptile store that had every kind of snake, monitor, lizard, turtle, Frog, Tarantula or scorpion you would ever want. Filled from floor to ceiling with terrariums. A little (and some big) boy's paradise. It couldn't have been more fun.

Havasupai High Adventure 2009

28 Murrieta Ward Varsity and Venture Crew members went to Havasupai this year. I'm the Young Men's President. What a great trip with some outstanding Young Men! The Supai Tribe opened up Havasupai this month for the first time since there was a flood last year so I didn't know what to expect. There are alot of changes to the area as you will see if you've been there before.

Debi Turns 50!!!

We spent the Day in San Diego Saturday because Kyle was in youth conference and it was Debi's 50th birthday. What a blast.

Mom and Dad told me about a can of negatives that was deep in their garage. I scanned them and found some interesting things. This one is the only one I know of with Great Grandma Harrison (Grandma Stone-Harrison's mother). There are lots of interesting ones. Let me know if you'd like any of the others.

High Adventure Camp - Murrieta Stake Youth

What a tiring but rewarding week! Actually, this week has been the culmination of a tiring couple months regarding AP camp. We had 115 youth and 75 adults from Monday through Friday doing the Balboa Park High Adventure camp. Unfortunately you (and consequently I) missed that one when you were in our ward. Here is a list of the activities we did this year:
- Snorkeling
- Kayaking
- Mountain biking 13 miles of pretty difficult terrain
- Sky Sailing (in glider planes a mile high in the air)
- Baptisms for the Dead service project
- Very cool ropes course that included a 325 yard zip line and a bunch of rope events 60 feet in the air.

Each night we had a Duty to God and Preach My Gospel workshop. The last day was the “Super Mega-Spiritual Experience”. I say it that way because that got to be an inside joke with us leaders putting it on. Really it was to help the boys experience the plan of Salvation. In a nutshell, I started it off by holding a 20 minute pre-existence meeting with each Varsity team preparing them for the earth-life experience. From there we took them to a 100 foot zip line to earth. They then were blind-folded and had to follow the iron-rod up a mountain path while they heard many voices trying to get them to let go of the rod. They also heard the voices of their leaders encouraging them along. Those that got off the rod were met with their bishops who taught them about repentance. They were all then led blind-folded into a big amphitheatre where they heard dark kind of music (representing outer darkness) and sat in the dark. When everyone finished the course, they removed their blind-folds while the lights started to gradually get brighter and they heard about the different kingdoms until the brightest lights came on and Pres Smith described the celestial kingdom and spoke to them for a while.
Tonight we are showing video of the event and having another testimony meeting about the event.

AZ Trip 7-2008

We’ve had a pretty exciting couple weeks around here. The highlight was getting everybody together in AZ for a great visit. All of our immediate “State-side” family was there (all but Kevin in Paraguay). That was the first time I have held my grandson Corbin. I have seen lots of pictures, but never been with him in person. Tristen has a lot of pictures on her blog so I’ll let you seen them there. Check out the "Lawrence Link to the right". Lake Powell 2008

We spent the week on Lake Powell with Debi's family. Yesterday we got off Lake Powell about 9:00am after packing up all morning, and decided to take in the Grand Canyon on the way home. After 15 hours in the car we got home about 12:30 am this morning. We are walking zombies around here.

We had a great time. We mastered wake boarding, drove Jet skis, jumped off massive cliffs, Kayaked in huge canyons, drove speed boats and house boats.

We’ve had some crazy weather here the past few weeks. A couple weeks ago, we were nearing 100 degree temperatures, and then a week ago we were in the 50s. Wrightwood got 5 inches of snow! I was at Best Buy and got pounded with hail and huge drops of rain. Right about then, 30 miles up the road at March air force base, we got pounded by two simultaneous tornados that turned over trucks and a train. We never get tornados here!

I was pretty nervous snapping these pictures.

We had a great visit with our missionary. I video'd the whole thing, but will spare you. The picture was really great. The other challenge is that he was in an "Internet Cafe" and had other customers in the room, so he had to speak quietly, thus we're loud, he's quiet.
